In 2010, Anil Kumble was given the responsibility of Captaining the Royal Challengers Bangalore and finished the regular season with 7 wins from 14 matches and 14 points. The franchise was qualified for the semifinal as their net run rate was superior to those of the Delhi Daredevils and the Kolkata Knight Riders. In the semifinal, the Royal Challengers Bangalore were defeated by the strong Mumbai Indians by 35 runs.

With a thumping win over defending champions Deccan Chargers in the third-place playoff, the Royal Challengers Bangalore qualified for the 2010 Champions League T20. Anil Kumble retired at the end of the Champions League, having led the team to the semifinals of both the IPL and the CLT20 that year.

In the recently concluded 2022 season, RCB had undergone some major changes in the team at the backdrop of the star batter AB de Villiers announcing his retirement in November 2021 and RCB announced a new captain, Faf du Plessis, after former captain Virat Kohli announced his retirement from captaincy following the second leg of 2021 IPL season. RCB’s famous rivals are Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders and Sun Risers Hyderabad.

The rivalry with Chennai Super Kings is a neighborly feud, the CSK team beat the Royal Challengers in the final of the 2011 IPL, the only meeting between the two teams at an IPL final.

The rivalry between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore is one of the oldest in the IPL. The inaugural match of IPL was played between both the teams in which KKR won by 140 runs due to a 158* off just 73 balls by Brendon McCullum, an unprecedented knock by a batsman of this caliber.

Another notable rivalry is with the Sun Risers Hyderabad (SRH) franchises, first with Deccan Chargers and now with Sun Risers Hyderabad. The clashes between Bangalore and Hyderabad have been intense with the latter ultimately dominating the former. Deccan Chargers had won 6 out of the 11 clashes between the two and Sun Risers currently lead by 12 games to the 9 games that were won by RCB.
